Borat (2006)

The movie is about a journalist from Kazakhstan. He is preparing a television program about the discovery of the United States. The main actor of “Borat” is comedian Sasha Baron Cohen. He is very similar to Groucho Marx – comedian of America 30-z years. Borat goes to America with his companion. At home he leaves his mother, wife and brother behind.

In an American hotel he behaves like a real savage. First he tries to live in the hotel, and then he starts washing himself from the toilet in the room. While in the US, Borat watches an episode of the movie “Baywatch”, and falls in love with the main character Pamela Anderson. He soon learns that his wife is dying. He then immediately decides to get Pamela Anderson and travels to Los Angeles.

During his trip, Borat continues to make a movie about America. He meets feminists, black people, and sleeps in a Jewish house. Borat then visits an antique store to purchase a shotgun to defend himself against the Jews.

In an attempt to get Pamela Anderson, Borat fails miserably. Then he realizes that plastic breasts are not happiness. The protagonist decides to marry a black prostitute. Together with her, he returns to his homeland.

Interesting facts about the movie:

  • Most of the scenes were filmed without a script and with people who actually believed they were talking to a journalist.
  • The scene in the antique store is staged. The store owner did not suspect a trick. Borat caused damage to the store totaling $500. Everything that was broken was paid for.
  • All scenes filmed in Kazakhstan were shot in the Romanian town of Gold. Characters who appear to speak Kazakh actually speak Romanian. The actress who plays Borat’s wife was born in Kazakhstan and emigrated to Romania.
  • People called the police 91 times while the movie was being filmed.
  • During the first screening of the movie in Toronto, the projector broke down. Then the actor playing Borat tried to keep the audience’s attention.
  • The entire plot of the movie is built on humiliating jokes. Among them there are jokes about LGBT.

Borat 2 (2020)

After the movie Borat, the movie Borat 2 is planned to be released in 2020. The main character of the movie is a journalist from Kazakhstan Borat Sagdiyev. Now the main character impersonates others to interview famous people. The protagonist considers himself a celebrity after the first movie brought success. He tries to pretend to be another person.

In late June 2020, he makes tabloid headlines for disrupting a far-right rally in Olympia. There he convinced people to perform a racially charged song with him. The rally in question was called “March for Our Rights.” It was organized by a right-wing militia group that is known for gun advocacy. At the rally, Cohen was dressed in overalls and had a stick-on beard. The song included lyrics about injecting children with the Wuhan flu.

In early July 2020, another Cohen joke hit the news. It happened when New York Mayor Giuliani told a publication that Cohen had organized an ambush in early July at a New York City hotel. The New York mayor wanted to give an interview about what the White House’s response would be to a coronavirus pandemic. However, while he was talking to a reporter, a man dressed in crazy clothes burst in. He was wearing a pink bikini with lace and a mesh top.
