Maximus is rightly considered the best strategist and warrior in the entire Great Roman Empire. Thanks to his intervention, the ruler won more than one victory, but fate played a cruel joke on him.
From a hero he turned into a traitor, sentenced to death. Miraculously, Maximus managed to escape from prison. He took part in the bloody battles at the Colosseum, preparing for the battle with the main enemy – Commodus. Years later, his nephew Lucius, exiled by his mother to Numidia, repeats the fate of Maximus. He is found by Marcus Acacius, intent on getting rid of the real heir, and his longtime rival. Gladiator (2000)
180. The war begun by Marcus Aurelius comes to an end. He owes much of his victory to the great commander Maximus. There was no man in the entire Roman Empire equal in strength and wisdom to the general.
He calculated the thoughts of opponents for many steps ahead, used cunning and power, dealing with enemies, and never stopped in the face of danger. Over the long years of fighting, he had many detractors hoping to remove him from the arena.
Political intrigue ruined his reputation. Maximus was recognized as a traitor in his homeland and had to flee, becoming a gladiator.
Gladiator II (2024)
The only descendant of the former Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius is forced into hiding. He was the nephew of Commodus, who was defeated by Maximus.
The young man, left without a guardian, fled. Lucius settled in Numidia, located in North Africa. His mother tried her best to keep him away from the influence of political intrigue. She provided him with a few years of quiet, measured life with his wife and young son.
Habitual existence came to an end when Roman troops invaded Numidia. At the head of the army was Marcus Acacius. He came to a foreign land with the sole purpose of finding the former heir to the Roman Empire and getting rid of the enemy. Lucius lost the battle and was captured. From now on, he will have to become a gladiator.
